The Cultural Council has made the transition from a full-time employee dedicated to accounting, finance and HR to contracted services. This outsourcing trend in small nonprofit administration is one that provides the Cultural Council with costs savings of salaries and benefits but preserves the expertise and guidance needed to reduce expenses and increase revenue while ensuring compliance and tax readiness. Working with Cultural Council staff and the board finance committee, the contracted financial services company provides budgeting guidance, grant reporting, grant applications, payments to grantees, and other compliance requirements.
These financial services are provided by AvenueCFO, which started working with the Cultural Council on a pro bono basis in fall 2020 and as a contracted service provider in January 2021.
Founder and President of AvenueCFO Nan Kreamer has been working with entrepreneurial companies as a full-time CFO, a part-time CFO or Interim CFO for over 20 years. Kreamer started her career with Price Waterhouse and moved into corporate America where she was instrumental in shaping global financial management organizations, assisting management teams in growing businesses, turnaround management, creating infrastructure and securing debt facilities. Prior to founding Avenue CFO, Kreamer held positions as Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer and Controller for various companies ranging from $2 billion in sales to startups. Further, Kreamer has been involved in mergers and acquisitions, leading the due diligence teams for acquisitions and pitching buyers/investors for divestitures. Kreamer saw a need that many growing entrepreneurial companies could benefit from “big business” strategies, but many were not in a position to pay “big business” salaries. With this impetus, Kreamer founded AvenueCFO.
