PHOTOJAX 2011 Announces "5x500", a Camera Phone Image Event
Eligibility: This Open Call is open to any First Coast residents of at least 8 years of age.

PHOTOJAX 2011, a two-day festival, celebrating fine art photography will bring a diversity of photography related exhibitions, gallery openings, and portfolio reviews hosted by various venues throughout Jacksonville. The festival brings together photographers, photography enthusiasts, collectors, educators, galleries, museums and the general public to explore all aspects of the medium by answering this year’s thematic question: “What is Photography?” PHOTOJAX 2011 will take place Friday Sept. 16 and Saturday, Sept. 17. Project Details:
PHOTOJAX 2011 and The Art in Public Places Program administered by the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville on behalf of the City of Jacksonville is now accepting entries for “5 × 500”, a community response art project showcasing images taken with a camera phone. The theme for entries is “River City, Sand and Sea” Both amateur and professional photographers are eligible to enter. The deadline for submissions is August 22, 2011 by 5 PM. First Coast residents may submit up to (one) camera phone image each. The images are intended to capture natural and manmade beauty that makes our local environment unique. Selections will be made by the PHOTO JAX Art Advisory Committee, chaired by Museum of Contemporary Art Curator, Ben Thompson. Five hundred images will be selected and each will be projected at a scale of 66’ high x 50’ wide for five seconds onto the exterior façade of MOCA on September 16 beginning at 8:30 p.m. as part of PHOTO JAX 2011.
Artwork Specifications:
? Submittal of all required materials as outlined in the Submission Process (Open Call)
? Representation of diversity in the origins and backgrounds of the artists
? Originality, creativity and uniqueness of proposed artwork
? Contemporary in terms of innovative and creative thinking
? Appropriateness for viewing in the general public
Submission Process:
Entries must include photographers first and last name, image title, type of cell phone used, location where image was taken and phone number. For best projection results, images must be 72dpi. Submissions may be sent to photojax5×500@gmail.com. All submissions will be vetted for appropriateness.
Images must be captured by cell phone only.
