Public Art Work The Pathway To Consciousness Installed At West Regional Public Library

JACKSONVILLE, FL – A new installation of public art by local artist Dana Chapman at the new West Regional Public Library was completed yesterday for the city’s Art in Public Places Commission. The artwork is a ceramic wall relief of realistic, three-dimensional renderings of natural objects found in the woods. The “larger-than-life” pine cones, acorns, stones and seedlings will extend on the soffit in a U-shape from the entrance doors to the circulation desk and main book room.

This installation is the eighth of fourteen major public art installations slated for the Jacksonville Public Library, complementing this year’s installations of Paul Braun’s stone sculptures at the Web Wesconnett Branch; Larry Kirkland’s bronze owl sculpture, “Wisdom,” at the new Main Library; Liz Mapelli’s glass panel sculpture “SquirrelyQ” at the new Argyle Branch; Kelli Bickman’s mural, “Imagination Tree” at Brentwood Branch; BJ Katz glass panel “Sun Salutations at the Southeast Branch; and Joe Segal’s concrete and marble aggregate sculpture “Revelation” at the San Marco Branch Library.

“The work is simply an investigation and observation of transitional moments in time symbolized by simulated objects meant to trigger associations in the viewers Memory” says Dana Chapman.

Chapman’s ceramics have been displayed in many solo and group exhibitions and are in many private collections and galleries.

The Art in Public Places Program is directed by the City’s Art in Public Places Commission, with assistance provided by the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville.
