CULTURAL SERVICE CAPITAL PROGRAM FUNDS

CAPITAL PROJECTS OF FIVE ORGANIZATIONS

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Five Duval County cultural organizations have been awarded a total of $118,290 in capital improvement grants through the Cultural Service Capital Program. The program is funded by the City of Jacksonville and administered by the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville. At its annual meeting June 6, the Cultural Council Board of Directors approved the Cultural Service Grant Review Panel’s recommended allocations.
The purpose of the Cultural Service Capital Program is to coordinate the City of Jacksonville’s support and funding for the renovation, construction and acquisition of cultural facilities in Duval County. Grant awards must be matched on a one-to-one cash basis.

Organizations receiving 2006 capital awards include:

Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens – $25,000
To purchase new security technology to meet baseline professional standards and requirements for traveling exhibitions

Florida Theatre Performing Arts Center – $25,000
To replace the worn, aging main stage curtain and rehabilitate portions of the stage rigging system, which are critical for safety

Jacksonville Symphony Association – $22,508
To enhance and improve its sound control capabilities to advance quality of product offered to the public as it relates to the new “Plugged In” series

Theatre Jacksonville – $25,000
To renovate the theatre’s main lobby to create a historically accurate, inviting, safe and aesthetically pleasing entry

WJCT Public Broadcasting – $20,782
To purchase and install a new audio console to replace an old, unreliable one and thereby improve the quality of television studio events

Cultural Council awards capital grants

“Funding provided through the Cultural Service Capital Program ensures more services to Jacksonville’s residents and visitors through improved facilities,” said Robert Arleigh White, Cultural Council Executive Director.
The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville works to advance the appreciation and expression of art and culture by increasing community awareness of cultural activities and issues; providing arts education; and offering funding and technical assistance to cultural organizations and individual artists. Funding for the Council is provided in part by the City of Jacksonville; Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Arts Council; and the National Endowment for the Arts.
