Public Art Work “Circ de Vie (Circle of Life)” Installed At Mandarin Regional Branch Library

Jacksonville, Fla. – Jacksonville painter Sarah Crooks Flaire recently installed her public artwork entitled “Circ de Vie” (Circle of Life) at the Mandarin Regional Branch Library, 3330 Kori Rd. The work measures 12-feet in diameter and is located overhead in the library’s entryway. It is a mixed media collage combining figurative and botanical images in a vibrant arc of color. “Circ de Vie” is the 14th library installation of the City of Jacksonville’s Art in Public Places Program.

The work is composed of painted maple plywood cutouts and colored Plexiglas elements, mounted at various depths from the wall allowing light and shadow to play across the surface. According to Flaire, the piece is “a monumental puzzle painting, where some elements are left up to the imagination of the viewer. Circle of Life is a celebration of the diversity of life.”

Flaire will conduct a family-friendly, hands-on workshop at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, at the Mandarin Regional Branch Library. The artist will lead a discussion about “Circ de Vie” and her other artworks, and then work with children and adults to create their own collages. The event is free and open to the public and is a part of the Art in Public Places Program’s Community Education initiative.

“Circ de Vie” is the last in a series of public artworks for libraries funded by the Better Jacksonville Plan. Projects include Larry Kirkland’s bronze owl sculpture, “Wisdom,” and Kathryn Freeman’s two interior murals at the new Main Library. The Art in Public Places Program is administered by the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville on behalf of the City of Jacksonville.
